As a popular engine in a wide range of classic Ford models that are constantly increasing in value, the Ford Kent Crossflow engine was – and still is – a beautifully straightforward compact powertrain capable of road and race performance.
In Classic Hot Rods the engine was a durable and reliable unit that could take considerable abuse and combined with its world-wide motorsport success in the well supported Formula Ford 1600 class, the Kent engine is the stuff of legend.
Formula Ford 1600 Kent Engines have been in use for over 50 years. The Classic Clubmans formula has also used the engine since 1965 – a series that remains well supported to this day. You could say the Kent Engine has been a pivotal part of Ford’s and club-level motorsport since it’s arrival back in 1959 in the Ford Anglia.

Ford Kent engines have been built at Scholar for more than 50 years, in regulated race specifications for Formula Ford 1600, and in many variations of for classic Fords, Caterhams, Lotus Sevens and kit cars alike.
