Ford Duratec Engine

Developed not much later than the Zetec engine, the Duratec was a collaborative development between Ford, Mazda (owned by Ford at the time), and Yamaha. With increasingly stringent worldwide emissions regulations and performance requirements, the Duratec featured some innovations shared with its smaller Sigma sibling. An all alloy construction gave significant reduction in weight over earlier engines, whilst chain-driven cam timing, slim-skirted pistons, and large ports & valves, help the engine to rev freely.

By this time, all of the Ford car model range saw the engine mounted transversely, but the Duratec can be reconfigured for front-engine rear wheel drive with minimal modification. In conjunction with the ability to make good power in relatively standard spec, this has made the Duratec a very popular choice for use in race, rally and road cars alike.

Using a selection of in-house reworked components and high quality off-the-shelf parts from established manufacturers, our Ford Duratec Engines are precision machined and assembled in our workshops to the highest level of detail.  All engines can be dyno tested and engine break-in/running-in carried out to ensure that you get the best from your build before it heads for your intended use.

Based on your requirements, our Ford Duratec Engines can feature:

  • Power levels ranging from standard through to full race and rally spec.
  • Capacities ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 litre.
  • Ported and polished cylinder head.
  • Standard, fast road, or race spec camshafts.
  • Forged pistons and con rods.
  • Configured for transverse or longitudinal installations, including dry sump systems.

Applications for our Duratec engines are varied, but commonly include:

  • Sports 2000 Duratec
  • Club and National level rallying engines 2.0, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 litre.
  • Road going and track day Caterham.
