The compact design of the A-series engine has made it undeniably one the most popular small engines to be produced. With the first examples released in 1951, contained within the confines of the Austin A30 and Morris Minor alike displacing a mere 803cc, all the way up to the 1275 A+ Mini produced until 2000. Although over the years there were many upgrades and improvements made, the A-series has won the appreciation of many enthusiasts.
With its vast heritage in motorsport the A-series has proven to be one of the most competent engines in history from winning various rallies including the gruelling Monte Carlo to becoming a giant killer on the circuit when paired against the likes of the mighty Ford V8’s of the 60’s. It is safe to say the A-series can reliably perform in any situation.
This has meant that parts are still readily available for all specifications from standard road base engines all the way up to full race animals with unlimited combinations in between.
